West African

Ages 8-17 ; Adult 18+

West African dance is a vibrant, high-energy dance form rooted in the traditional rhythms and movements of various West African cultures. It emphasizes powerful footwork, expressive upper-body movement, and strong connection to live drumming. Each dance tells a story or marks a celebration—such as harvests, rites of passage, or community gatherings. Classes focus on musicality, rhythm, stamina, and cultural appreciation, often accompanied by live percussion that brings the movement to life. Dancers develop a deep sense of rhythm, coordination, and community through the joyful and spiritual nature of this art form.

Modern

Ages 8+

Modern dance is a creative, grounded style that lets dancers explore movement in new and unusual ways. Instead of focusing on emotion like Lyrical, Modern uses big energy changes, floor work, and natural, free-flowing movement. Dancers learn to move with strength, use their whole body, and express ideas in a more adventurous, outside-the-box way. It’s great for kids who love creativity, exploration, and trying something different.
